"Saddam's Execution Marks The End Of A Dark Period Of Iraq's History"?

Saddam Hussein was hanged in Iraq early this morning. This marks the end of a long and brutal dictatorship.

A scrolling Iraqi TV headline read "Saddam's execution marks the end of a dark period of Iraq's history" - but it's not over yet. By carrying out the death penalty on Saddam, he is martyred. His death provides an excuse for Saddam's supporters (or opponents of the Iraqi government) to escalate violence and terrorist attacks all over Iraq, and gives new impetus to terrorist elements all over the world.

Executing Saddam was a mistake. He should have been left to rot in jail, not given a martyr's death. This "dark period" in Iraq's history is not over yet. Not by a long shot.
